Park Field was full of smiles on Saturday 4th April as families enjoyed the annual Swine Egg Hunt. A huge thank‑you to everyone who made it possible — our generous donators, everyone who helped, and of course all the enthusiastic little hunters. It was lovely to see so many happy faces, and great to welcome visitors from Sutton who joined in the fun.

We’re delighted to share that £60 was raised for the Summer Fayre account, which raises money for village projects, such as the recent replacement of the church clock.

Swine Station Revealed: A Weekend of Community Action

Over the last weekend in October, a group of hardy volunteers rolled up their sleeves to carry out vegetation clearance at Swine Station on the Hornsea Trail. The aim was to uncover part of the old railway platform, long hidden beneath brambles, weeds, and moss.

On Saturday 25th, a local farmer brought in a hedge cutter, making short work of the thick overgrowth and dramatically transforming the site.

The following day, Sunday 26th, volunteers returned with hand tools to dig out roots, trim back remaining vegetation, and carefully clear the coping stones.

Swine Station once formed part of the Hull to Hornsea railway line, which operated from 1864 until its closure in 1964 under the Beeching cuts. It carried Victorian day trippers to the coast and workers into Hull, and remains a cherished part of local heritage. One passer-by, walking his dog, fondly recalled travelling to Hornsea by train as a child.

What’s Next?

Plans for Phase 2 include:

  • Planting wildflowers to enhance biodiversity and soften the landscape

  • Installing information boards to share the history of the station and the railway line

  • Exploring options to stabilise the platform structure

  • Seeking sponsorship and funding to support further restoration and interpretation

This project is a testament to what can be achieved when communities come together. If you’d like to get involved or support future phases, please get in touch—we’d love to hear from you.

There will be a service for Harvest Festival on Sunday 12th October in St Mary's Church.

RWE has provided an update on its proposed Peartree Hill Solar Farm in East Riding of Yorkshire. The application for development consent was submitted in February and accepted for examination in March. The examination began in July and is expected to conclude by December 2025.

The next round of hearings will take place from 21–23 October at Tickton Grange Hotel, Beverley, and online via Microsoft Teams. Details on how to participate are available on the Planning Inspectorate’s website project page

As part of the proposal for Peartree Hill Solar Farm, RWE intends to create an extensive network of permissive paths. Permissive paths are routes which would be made available for use by the public during the lifetime of the Proposed Development but would not become a permanent right of way.  RWE is currently seeking public feedback on proposed changes to the network of permissive paths included in the project. These changes aim to address concerns about potential impacts on bird species near ecological mitigation areas.

Residents can submit feedback by 11:59pm on Wednesday 22 October via email, post, or online form. More information and consultation documents are available at peartreehillsolar.co.uk/documents

You can see more updates on this project on this website under Parish news / Planning Applications.

The popular Sloth & Scone Pop-up Cafe returned to Swine on 27th July.

Tea, coffee, home-baked cakes and scones and good company were all shared in the garden of Cherry Tree Cottage. The rain stayed away and a very healthy £800 was raised for the clock  face fund.

Big thanks to Yvonne and Jane for organising, and to everyone who helped set up, and take down, as well as to everyone who came along and helped to make it such an enjoyable occasion.

Residents celebrated VE Day 80th anniversary with a garden party on a gloriously sunny afternoon on Saturday 10th May.

The Research and Development department at The Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust is asking for help with very large survey study they are working on. They need to reach circa 15000 Participants for this study.

Can you help by sharing and completing this important survey related to loneliness and isolation?

It only takes 5 minutes and it will hopefully have an effect on governmental funding in the area. The study aims to map social isolation and loneliness around Hull. The findings will hopefully influence policy makers.

St Mary's Church Clock Face Fund News

The new clock face is up, but not yet fully working as some repairs are required to rectify some wear and tear issues to the clock mechanism itself.  The funds are essentially in place, as the church should be able to claim a VAT refund, however the VAT will need to be paid before it can be refunded, so we need to raise a bit more money to help us pay the final bill to Cumbria Clocks.

Annual Accounts 2024-2025

The Parish Council Accounts have been completed and uploaded to this website. Information regarding The Notice of Public Rights and Publication of Annual Governance Accountability information can be found in the Financial Information section of this website under Parish Information.
